1.0 Call for Applications

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology informs the public that the Swiss Confederation is offering Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and Tanzania.  

The scholarships target young researchers who have completed a Master’s degree or PhD in any field and wish to pursue research, doctoral, or post-doctoral studies in Switzerland. 

Scholarships are available for studies or research at:
i. Swiss cantonal universities
ii. Universities of Applied Sciences 
iii. The two federal institutes of technology 

Note: Only candidates nominated by an academic supervisor at one of these institutions will be considered. 

2.0 Eligibility Criteria

2.1. Research and PhD Scholarships 
i.          Holder of Master’s degree (or equivalent) completed before 31 July 2026
ii.         Recognized by a Swiss university
iii.        Age below 35 years 

 

2.2. Postdoctoral Scholarships 
i.     PhD completed between 2022 and 31 July 2026 
2.3. Other Requirements 
i.          Must not have stayed in Switzerland for more than one year at the start of the scholarship. 
ii.         Must not have previously received a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. 
2.4 Required Documents 
Applicants must submit: 
i.       Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts 
ii.       Curriculum Vitae (CV) 
iii.      Copy of the first three pages of a valid passport 

3.0 Scholarship Coverage

i.      The scholarship provides:
ii.      Monthly grant of CHF 1,920 – 3,500 
iii.     Health insurance 
iv.      Accommodation 
v.       Return flight allowance 

Note: The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania does not provide any additional funding. Candidates should arrange other resources to cover costs not included in the scholarship.
