1.0.        CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announces the availability of fully funded scholarships offered by the Government of Japan through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the MEXT Scholarship Program. The scholarships are open to qualified Tanzanian applicants for full-time studies at accredited universities in Japan. Programmes available include: Undergraduate, Master’s, Doctoral. The scholarships are for the 2026/2027 academic year.

2.0 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

(i) Undergraduate Applicants

Applicants seeking admission to bachelor’s degree programmes in Natural Sciences (such as engineering, agriculture, and medicine) or Social Sciences (such as law, economics, and Japanese language) must:

  1. Be under 25 years of age (born on or after 2 April 2002); 
  2. Have completed 12 years of formal education or possess an equivalent qualification (including prospective graduates). 

(ii) Research Applicants (Master’s and Doctoral)

Applicants intending to pursue postgraduate studies must:

  1. Be under 35 years of age (born on or after 2 April 1992); 
  2. Hold a bachelor’s degree (including prospective graduates);  
  3. Have completed at least 16 years of formal education or possess an equivalent qualification; and 
  4. Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale (or 7.0 on a 10.0 scale) in their most recent degree

3.0.     APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applicants should follow these steps:

Step 1
Review the official guidelines to confirm eligibility for the intended programme.

Step 2
Download and complete all required application forms and prepare supporting documents.

Step 3
Submit all completed documents, together with the checklist, in a single sealed envelope.

4.0 APPLICATION PERIOD

Application deadlines differ by programme:

  1. Undergraduate and Specialized Training College Applicants:
    21 April – 21 May 2026
    (Applications must be received by the Embassy by 4:30 p.m.) 
  2. Research Applicants (Master’s and Doctoral):
    21 April – 11 May 2026
    (Applications must be received by the Embassy by 4:30 p.m.)

Note:  The government of the United of Republic of Tanzania will not provide any top-up allowances or loan for the beneficiary of this scholarship.
