1. Call for Application

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announces that applications are now open for the African Scholarship Programme (ASP) 2027 at the Nordic Africa Institute. The programme offers early-career researchers based in Africa the opportunity to conduct research at the Institute for two to three months, enabling them to advance ongoing projects while engaging with a vibrant Nordic–African academic community.

  1. Eligibility Criteria

2.1. PhD Students

  1. Enrolled in an Africa-based doctoral programme
  2. Employed full-time at an African university or research centre
  3. Without access to international PhD funding or scholarships

2.2. Postdoctoral Researchers

  1. PhD completed within the last four (4) years
  2. Holding a position at an African university or research centre

 

  1. Programme Benefits

Selected scholars will receive:

  1. Return airfare (economy class)
  2. Accommodation
  3. Daily subsistence allowance of 450 SEK (approx. USD 50)
  4. Installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approx. USD 280)
  5. Shared office workspace with desk and computer
  6. Access to the Institute’s specialized library (contemporary African social sciences and humanities)
  7. Access to libraries at Uppsala University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

 

  1. Application Requirements 

Applicants must submit:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – including list of publications (links recommended).
  2. Research Proposal (max. 5 pages) – Introduction; aims and scope; literature review; research design and methodology; implications and contribution; reference list.
  3. Work Plan (1 page) – objectives and expected outcomes during the visit.
  4. PhD students: Supervisor or Head of Department confirming enrolment and employment.
  5. Postdoctoral researchers: Head of Department/Institute confirming current affiliation.
