Education Departments comprise of the Office of the Chief Education Officer, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Teacher Education, School Inspectorate, Vocational Training, Policy and Planning, and Administration and Personnel.

The core institutions, which play a role in the provision of education are Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA), The Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB), The Institute of Adult Education (IAE), The Teachers Service Department (TSD) and The Agency for Development Education Management (ADEM)
