Heads of Government Teacher Education Colleges have been urged to spearhead the ongoing reforms in the education sector by strengthening leadership, accountability, and the effective use of resources to ensure that the implementation of the Improved Curriculum achieves its intended objectives.

The call was made on 7 August 2026 in Dodoma by the Director of Human Resource Development at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Edith Rwiza, while closing a working session for the Heads of Colleges and Academic Coordinators. The session aimed to assess the implementation of the Improved Teacher Education Curriculum, which began in 2023, and to strengthen the management of teacher education colleges.

Dr. Rwiza said that Heads of Colleges should ensure that the training and resolutions reached during the session are translated into practical action, while maintaining work discipline, accountability, and the proper use of Government funds and resources.

Speaking about the Public Employees Performance Management Information System (PEPMIS), she emphasised that the system is an important tool for measuring performance and promoting accountability among public servants. Therefore, its effective management should be given priority in every college.

“College Heads should ensure that staff accurately complete their performance information, their objectives are aligned with Government priorities, and performance assessments are conducted based on work results,” Dr. Rwiza emphasised.

For his part, the Assistant Director of the Department of Teacher Education and Training at the Ministry, Mathias Mvula, said that the working session had opened a new chapter in the performance of Teacher Education Colleges in the country, following the assessment conducted and the development of an action plan focused on achieving results.

Speaking on behalf of Heads of Teacher Education Colleges in the country, the Chairperson of the Heads of Government Teacher Education Colleges, who is also the Principal of Morogoro Teacher Education College, Agustio Sahili, pledged to ensure effective performance in achieving the Government’s broader objectives of producing highly competent teachers in the country
