The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Department is responsible for planning, development, maintaining, coordination, evaluation and regulating the Technical Education sub sector in order to address the socio-economic needs of Tanzanians and also to support and promote the development of human resources through the provision of necessary sub sector services to the community, the government and the private sector. The Department is led by a Director and has three Sections each led by an Assistant Director.

The three Sections of TVET Department are:

 

  • Technical Education and Training Section;
  • Vocational Education and Training Section; and
  • Management Support Section.

 

 

Functions of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Department

The functions of TVET Department include the following:

(a) To coordinate technical and vocational education and training services;

(b) To initiate and review vocational training and technical education policies, guidelines and standards;

(c) To monitor and evaluate vocational training and technical education development programmes;

(d) To provide management support services on vocational training and technical education;

(e) To ensure quality in Technical and Vocational Education; and

To coordinate and monitor institutions under the department  which are:

  • National Council for Technical Education (NACTE);
  • Vocational Education  and Training Authority (VETA);
  • Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA); and
  • Arusha Technical College (ATC).
