CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICER (CEO)

Role

The Office of the Chief Education Officer ( CEO) is responsible for effective implementation of the Education and Training Policy (1995), programmes and plans and overseeing the quality of inputs, processes and outputs of education in Tanzania .

Functions of the Chief Education Officer

 To issue directives that govern the management of government and non-government schools.

 To approve the establishment of non-government schools

 To approve the managers of schools or withdraw any approval so given

 To register and issue certificates of registration of schools

 To approve curricula and syllabi after consultation with the Minister of Education and Culture,

 To cause schools to be inspected by inspectors for the purpose of ensuring that the schools comply with the Education Act

 To register or cancel the registration of teachers

 To issue teaching certificates and licences to teachers

 To control school fees subscription and contributions in government and private schools

 To liaise with and co-ordinate all educational matters of international status

 To prepare and monitor the transmission of Radio and TV education programmes for schools, teachers and the general public,

 To coordinate and promote the provision of special education.

 To coordinate and promote the provision of adult education.
