CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICER (CEO)
Role
The Office of the Chief Education Officer ( CEO) is responsible for effective implementation of the Education and Training Policy (1995), programmes and plans and overseeing the quality of inputs, processes and outputs of education in Tanzania .
Functions of the Chief Education Officer
To issue directives that govern the management of government and non-government schools.
To approve the establishment of non-government schools
To approve the managers of schools or withdraw any approval so given
To register and issue certificates of registration of schools
To approve curricula and syllabi after consultation with the Minister of Education and Culture,
To cause schools to be inspected by inspectors for the purpose of ensuring that the schools comply with the Education Act
To register or cancel the registration of teachers
To issue teaching certificates and licences to teachers
To control school fees subscription and contributions in government and private schools
To liaise with and co-ordinate all educational matters of international status
To prepare and monitor the transmission of Radio and TV education programmes for schools, teachers and the general public,
To coordinate and promote the provision of special education.
To coordinate and promote the provision of adult education.
